Yom Kippur Study Hour - Collective Trauma: Considering a Personal Path to Recovery led by Amber Reiter
Thursday, September 16, 2021 • 10 Tishrei 5782
1:00 PM - 2:00 PMZOOMWe are experiencing an ongoing collective trauma during these Covid-19 pandemic years. Historically, humans do not like to acknowledge when we are being directly impacted by external events emotionally or psychologically. We like to appear to ourselves and others as healthy and vibrant, not in any way affected by emotional pain. Our lack of recognition of the personal effects of collective trauma can be seen as internalized stigma which is a reflection of institutional stigma long endemic to the field of mental health. In the rush to claim resilience, we often move too quickly past the need for applied recovery efforts. During this presentation we will define collective trauma, resilience and recovery. We will hear what our rabbinic sages taught us about this topic, hear some of Amber insights, and take time to reflect on this topic as a group as well.
