This year’s concert will occur on Shabbat Shirah, the Shabbat in which we read the Torah portion where God parts the Red Sea, permitting Moses, Miriam, and all the children of Israel to cross where they join in joyous song.  This year’s concert will also occur ten months after COVID-19 forced us to close our buildings and adapt to a new reality. Through it all, we as a Jewish community have strived to innovate and to be resilient and it is my hope that Songs for the Journey will honor the various journeys that we have taken during this time.  This year, I’m delighted to be joined in song by Elana Arian.  Elana is a nationally renowned Jewish musician, composer, and instrumentalist.  She is incredibly talented and is one of the most sought-after voices in Jewish music today.  Her talent is only surpassed by her kindness and collaborative spirit.  Elana joining will be an incredible treat for us all.
Every year, the Cantor's concert supports a charitable venture, both inside and outside of our Beth El community. The concerts have allowed us to shine a light on the work of these projects through music. Some examples of our work have included raising funds for HIAS, The ACT for Alexandria COVID Relief Fund, and Beth El Civic Engagement projects.
This year, the concert supports the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC). Both Cantor Kaufman and Rabbi Spinrad sit on the commission of RAC leadership, making Beth El the only synagogue to have both the Cantor and the Rabbi of a given community represented.  The RAC is the Reform Jewish moral voice in Washington DC and around our nation. It works on all of the issues of the day, ensuring that our Reform Jewish voice is a part of national and local conversations.
Please go to to learn more about the incredible work of the RAC. In the coming days and weeks we will be sharing more details about the specific project of the RAC that we will be sponsoring.
I’m proud to say that Songs of the Journey will be a free concert.  For those who are able, I invite you to be a sponsor of the concert by donating below.
We offer several sponsorship levels. All sponsors will be listed in the credits of the concert and in a future issue of The Bulletin.
