Volunteering with Beth El House
There are many things you can do to help Beth El House throughout the year. Keep your eye out for specific dates and locations in the Temple Bulletin or our Home Report as events approach. You will find that getting involved with this worthwhile cause makes you feel wonderful. You will be making a real difference in people's lives!

- Clean Up Days at the House - Two Sundays a year, in Spring and Fall (November), typically from 10am-2pm, volunteers gather at the House to do minor home maintenance and yard work.
- Walkathon - One Sunday morning in the spring, we host a
walkathon at the Temple. The walk route is typically less than a
mile around the neighborhood. We solicit walkers from the religious
school and their parents to sign up and walk to support BEH (with
a $10-$15 contribution). We need volunteers to help make fliers,
distribute fliers, solicit walkers, lead the group around the neighborhood,
etc.
- Rabbi's Support Letter Mass Mailing - We have a mass mailing one Sunday morning in October. The letters go to everyone in our donor database (about 1,000 families) and include the Rabbi's support letter, BEH brochure, Home Report and return envelope. We always need volunteers to help stuff, label, seal and sort the letters.
- Phonathon - One Sunday in December, we conduct our annual phonathon. This is our single largest fundraising activity. The calls are very warm calls as we have an unbelievable support system from our congregants.
- Resource Program - Year round, volunteers are needed to help directly with the residents, both the women and children. The residents request help in specific areas (resume building/interviewing, health & nutrition, language tutoring, etc.) and we try to help them in these areas. If you'd like to learn more, please contact Jodi Finn at 703-549-7903.
- Adopt-A-Family Program - Just before the Hanukah/Christmas holidays, we ask for hosting participants to purchase specific gifts for the residents off of their "wish list." Then, the hosts wrap and label the gifts and drop them off at the social services office for them to deliver them.
- Resident Services Committee - This is a monthly commitment year round (2nd Thursday of every month at 7:00pm) where volunteers discuss the progress of each resident with the case manager. We also interview prospective residents and conduct 6-month evaluations for current residents.
- Home Maintenance Committee - Help coordinate repairs at the house. This responsibility will rotate among members of a small committee. It will help if you are handy. But the main part of the job will be to coordinate with contract workers to get the problems fixed and keep the house in tip-top shape.
