Rabbi Brett R. Isserow succeeded the late Rabbi Arnold Fink as the Senior Rabbi of Beth El on July 1, 2002.

Rabbi Isserow was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. He graduated from the University of Witwatersrand in 1975 with a degree in accounting and became a Chartered Accountant in 1978. He was a partner in a firm of Chartered Accountants and Auditors until leaving South Africa for Israel in 1986.

Rabbi Isserow was ordained in June 1991 from Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio. In July 1991 he began his tenure as Assistant Rabbi of The Temple and was named as Associate Rabbi in May 1994.

Apart from his Temple commitments, Rabbi Isserow was involved in a wide range of community projects and participated in a variety of community events. He was the President of the Atlanta Rabbinical Association, a Co-chair of The Interfaith Coalition of Metropolitan Atlanta, served on the Executive and Board of Project Open Hand and the Boards of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta and Intergroup Advisory Committee of the Community Foundation. He was an active member of the Steering Committee of the Faith & Environment Connection and a co-chair of the Piedmont Hospital Ethics Committee.

Soon after his arrival in Northern Virginia, Rabbi Isserow was invited to join the Ethics Committee of Inova Alexandria Hospital and also serves on the Board of The Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia.

He has spoken in a number of different settings and continues to encourage communication within the diverse communities of NOVA. To this end he has expanded Beth El's relationships with neighboring congregations and organized the first interfaith trip to Israel with Christ Church. He is involved in a number of ongoing interfaith dialogues.

In addition to the weekly adult education program at Beth El, Rabbi Isserow has taught for the Foundation of Jewish Studies, the Jewish community at Greenspring Village and at a variety of Congregations in the Northern Virginia area.

Rabbi Isserow is married to Rabbi Jinny Isserow, an artist, rabbi and homemaker, and they have two children, Anna and Jesse.
